VEVOR 16 vs 22 Inch: How Much Capacity Do You Need?

By John Morris · Updated 2026-09-07 · Research method

The VEVOR 22-inch MS3156 has a concrete capacity advantage over the 16-inch MS3140: six more inches of listed workpiece width and a four-inch rather than three-inch maximum thickness. Choose it when those differences solve recurring jobs. Choose the sixteen-inch variant when its envelope is sufficient and its full installation better fits your plan. This is a comparison of published US listing information, with no measured finish or reliability ranking.

Find the jobs that need the larger opening

Sort upcoming work by its dimensions at the sanding stage. Panels above sixteen inches and no wider than twenty-two are the direct width case for MS3156. Assemblies above three inches and no thicker than four create a separate thickness case. A project need not be wide to benefit from the taller opening.

Count how often either group occurs. A single speculative oversized project is a weaker reason to commit a station than repeated actual work. If panels routinely exceed twenty-two inches, the larger VEVOR listing still does not establish the needed envelope. Neither machine has a verified doubled-width capacity in this comparison.

Read the two specification sets separately

MS3140 lists sixteen-inch width, thickness from 1/32 to three inches, a 1.5 HP motor, and a high-speed figure of 1720 RPM. MS3156 lists twenty-two-inch width, thickness from 1/32 to four inches, 1.75 HP, and a high-speed figure of 1440 RPM. Both reviewed listings specify 110V/60Hz power and a four-inch dust port.

Do not infer which will leave a better surface from RPM or horsepower. Those isolated figures do not reproduce the full sanding process. Minimum length and required extraction airflow remain unverified for both models, so capacity screening is incomplete until those requirements are obtained.

Plan around the assembly rather than the bare machine

Both selected offers describe a stand and extension tables. Confirm the components, mounting hardware, and any mobility provision for the exact size being ordered. The advertised arrangement is only part of the operating footprint: the panel needs a supported path, and the operator needs room to return it for another pass.

A twenty-two-inch glue-up can be awkward even when its width fits. Check its weight, shape, and handling route with the machine location marked on the floor. Do not infer the exact footprint or lifting requirements from these width figures; obtain the dimensions and installation instructions for each current package.

Get extraction and short-stock answers in writing

Ask for the model-specific manual and all minimum stock dimensions before ordering for small components. An unknown minimum length is not unrestricted capacity. Likewise, a four-inch dust port does not establish the airflow that must reach the machine or certify the collector already in your shop.

The sixteen-inch listing’s Q&A cautions about accuracy and parallelism in over-width multiple-pass work. That warning does not prove the twenty-two-inch machine has a documented forty-four-inch rating. Treat each model’s capacity as its own question. An answer referring loosely to another VEVOR size is insufficient for deciding your purchase.

Compare ownership details that survive the first project

Request the correct wrap specification and conveyor replacement identifier for each size. Ask who handles troubleshooting, which evidence is needed for a damaged delivery, and how replacement parts are obtained. Neither a larger motor rating nor a lower checkout total demonstrates dependable parts access.

Build an itemized purchase sheet with delivery, installation support, useful abrasive grits, dust connections, and approved stock support. Then plan an acceptance check on representative material within confirmed limits. Record thickness and inspect the surface after a permitted conservative pass. This gives your own machine a baseline without turning a listing claim into a performance guarantee.

Final choice: width and thickness are separate reasons

MS3140 is the more proportionate candidate when your repeated parts fit within sixteen inches and three inches thick, provided VEVOR supplies the missing operating requirements. MS3156 is the stronger capacity match when either of those dimensions is regularly exceeded within its documented twenty-two-by-four-inch envelope.

Do not buy MS3156 merely by renaming it a 22-44. For panels beyond twenty-two inches, require an explicit applicable manufacturer specification or compare a machine with established two-pass capacity. For short blanks or a fixed dust system, the unanswered operating details may decide the shortlist before the extra width does.

Questions, answered

Does the 22-inch model sand forty-four inches in two passes?

That capacity was not verified from the reviewed official material. Use its listed twenty-two-inch maximum workpiece width.

Are the abrasive wraps interchangeable?

Do not assume so. Obtain the wrap dimensions and attachment requirements for MS3140 and MS3156 separately.

Does the larger motor mean I can take deeper cuts?

No universal cut follows from horsepower. Use the exact operating manual, suitable abrasive, and conservative measured trials for the actual workpiece.
